About the department
The Mechanical
and Industrial Engineering Department in the Newark College of Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology is
an advanced research-active department. Research thrust areas include Biomechanics, computational fluid mechanics,
biomedical devices, robotics, controls and automation, smart materials,
mechanics of complex materials, advanced energy systems, thermal-fluid systems,
climate modeling, computer aided design, machine learning, supply chain and operations research. Our department features 30 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 6 teaching faculty who
contribute significantly to our educational excellence and mission. Our
department accommodates an impressive student body of 1,200 individuals,
making us one of the largest
academic departments in the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT. Our offerings
include 24 graduate MS, PhD, and certificate programs, as well as undergraduate majors in mechanical
engineering (ME) and industrial engineering (IE). Our department thrives with a
vibrant community of student groups, including ASME (American Society of
Mechanical Engineers), IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers),
Baja SAE, and Robotics Club among others. MIE research projects are funded by
NSF, other federal agencies, NJ state, industry and private foundations.

Position Summary:
The
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a tenure-track position in a broad
scope of the department's research areas at the level of Assistant/Associate
Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

We encourage applications from
candidates with expertise and interest in establishing research programs with an emphasis on
mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, product and process design ;AI-driven machine learning applied to generative and
sustainable design; Computer-aided engineering and design optimization; energy systems and thermal systems engineering; semiconductor manufacturing and microelectronics, and packaging; and intelligent systems,
automation and novel robotic systems.

Essential Functions:
- Candidates are expected to conduct and advance scholarly research in pertinent areas and be able to secure external research funding from federal and state agencies and industry.
- Candidates are also expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in mechanical engineering as well as provide service to the program, department, university, and profession.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Applicants
are expected to have a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or a related
discipline.

Candidates must demonstrate clear potential for high-quality scholarly achievements
that demonstrate independent research ,and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
Industry experience and the ability to obtain professional licensure are
desirable.
- Candidates must have the potential to establish an externally funded
research program in their area of expertise.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
