Dean of Engineering

Job Description

The MU College of Engineering has a robust research culture, and the goal of growing significantly in the coming years. The College of Engineering Research Office seeks a motivated pre-award research administration professional to join our team and play an instrumental role in the growth and success of the college.

The RD professional assists and encourages faculty in securing extramural funding, primarily for interdisciplinary project teams and multiple investigators; facilitates inter-college and inter-university partnerships related to research development; works closely with junior faculty learning to write grant proposals and navigate the submission process; works with college administrators, faculty and the ERO team to enhance the research enterprise in the College of Engineering and across campus; provides grantsmanship training for faculty, staff and students; and locates and distributes research funding opportunities.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing proposal development support for grant proposals, including tasks such as leading and coordinating the roles of multiple investigators; managing team tasks and deadlines; interpreting proposal guidelines; providing detailed critiques and editing of draft documents; drafting non-technical materials; compiling and preparing materials to meet sponsor requirements; conferring with sponsor personnel and other grant staff as necessary; and building proposal budgets.
  • Supporting grantsmanship training/capacity building and working one-on-one with junior faculty.
  • Researching and distributing funding opportunities.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekends

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience in proposal development, and/or reviewing, managing, administering grants
  • Experience in proposal development at a research-intensive university
  • Experience conducting research
  • Experience with a variety of external sponsors
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency with PeopleSoft Grants Module
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $58,600.00 - $75,000.00 per year
