If so, then the Azure Compute Hardware Platform Innovation team is the place for you.As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Compute, you will define and validate the hardware and virtualization technologies that provide computational capabilities for Azure. You will work with partners and customers to deliver innovative solutions and find ways to improve efficiency. This opportunity will allow you to impact millions of users, accelerate your career growth, and constantly learn and wear many hats as you iteratively deliver value to customers.You will directly contribute to the architecture of new systems as part of the core Azure infrastructure, including hardware platforms and virtualization. ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for system architecture and design.Characterizes the performance of hardware components and platforms, and optimizes systems for performance, cost savings, and reliability.Builds and improves automation to aid in performance characterization, lab and scale testing, and onboarding of new hardware platforms.Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for Azure platforms and VMs.Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI). Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive project plans, release plans, and work items.Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
