The Firmware Engineering Manager will lead a team of electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and technicians in the power tool business in areas of firmware development, simulation, DevOps, firmware testing, and requirements management. As the manager, you will work within and facilitate a collaborative team environment with marketing, adjacent departments, quality, mechanical engineering, agency/safety teams, suppliers, and global manufacturing operations.

You'll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Build, manage, and motivateaBest-in-Class team of engineersandteam leaders in engineering best practicesto deliver new-to-world solutions.
  • Quickly,effectively, and candidlyframe-up and escalatebusiness risks/opportunities to senior leadership.
  • Actively manage team size, skill sets, and needed resources for both new product development and advanced development teams throughout the product life cycle of estimating, executing, postmortem, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor competitor design activity, adjacent space solutions, current product roadmap requests, and legacy product performance to drive best-in-class products for next generation products. Secure intellectual property that ensures Milwaukee Tool as an innovation leader.
  • Effectively communicateand motivateup,down, and acrossthe organization to adiverserange of technical and non-technical team members.
  • Drive urgencyin project schedulesand accountabilityforestablishing and achievingkey project cost andmetricsthat meet the organization's needs.
  • Championanddrivenewprocesses and proceduresto meet the needs ofa changing business.
  • Ensure the team is given the time and resources required to succeed by creating and managing robust project roadmaps and resource plans with converged project scope.
  • Define overall product design strategies, common architectures, and shared design building blocks across multiple products/projects.
  • Manage all department activities including hiring, staffing, capital equipment procurement/planning, and expense budgets.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of highly successful experience with embedded C/C++ in a related field.
  • 5+ years of team leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience in product development including embedded systems, firmware development, and agile development processes and tools.
  • Experience developing bare-metal firmware designs and those utilizing an RTOS.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in all software development lifecycle phases.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer reviews.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestically and internationally).

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or MBA.
  • Working knowledge of with battery, drive, and motor systems.
  • Use modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow.
  • Experience with auto code generation.
  • Experience with three phase motor control applications.
