Summary Description:

This Safety & Security Manager position is responsible for working with operations, maintenance, staff functions, and Union Leadership to ensure regulatory compliance, develop initiatives and programs to promote safe work practices and improvements.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership to support and assist all levels of management in achieving the facility and corporate goals for reduction of work-related injuries.
  • Zero injuries is our goal.
  • Assist in planning, creating, and implementing programs and processes to maintain a workplace that meets or exceeds federal and state safety requirements.
  • Expert in all regulatory requirements, industry standards and local safety matters including integration of Health, Safety, Security and best practices into the mill.
  • Experience in and knowledge of paper industry standards and process safety management (PSM) requirements.
  • Ensures a proactive approach to injury prevention and reporting.
  • Oversight of the mill's contracted security staff, in-house emergency response teams, and property protection programs.
  • Demonstrate Billerud leadership behaviors and support company initiatives.
  • Lead safety training and risk assessment initiatives.
  • Coordinate mill safety initiatives with Safety Team.
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to move around the mill, climb ladders, and catwalks.
Qualifications

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in occupational health and safety (OHS). safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or related field experience will be considered.
  • Proven leadership with demonstrated effectiveness in an industrial safety environment.

Travel: Negotiable

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Effective communication and leadership skills as well as demonstrated abilities to champion change and influence others at all levels of the organization are required.
  • Industrial Hygiene knowledge.
  • Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to improve safety performance.
  • Ability to listen generously and practice open advocacy.
  • Ability to inspire and guide others toward identifying and achieving vision and goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership in Process Safety Management (PSM) program improvements.
  • Experience leading risk assessment, job safety analysis, and incident prevention programs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience in a union environment with an excellent safety performance record is highly desired.
