SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.

Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly wage for this position is
$17.50 - $17.95 and may commensurate with experience.

The Janitor keeps buildings in clean and orderly condition. The Janitor performs heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 12:30pm-4:30pm (20 hours)

Qualifications

Required: Some High School education; 1+ years janitorial experience; work in a residential setting is helpful.

Expected Contributions:



  • Maintain the overall cleanliness of the apartment building, common, and amenity areas
  • Sweep, vacuum and mop floors; clean restrooms
  • Maintain curb appeal by ensuring trash is removed from property
  • Take out the trash from common areas and other designated locations
  • Clean and sanitize surfaces in all common area spaces
  • Deep clean common space resident kitchens monthly, bathrooms quarterly
  • Informs manager of any building safety or maintenance concerns

  • Must have a commitment to service excellence with a friendly and positive attitude
  • Maintain a professional appearance and friendly attitude toward residents and community staff while maintain required boundaries
  • Able to keep up with the physical demands of being on your feet and walking for much of the day
  • Exceptional attention to detail and quality
  • Ability to take direction, work productively on one's own and adhere to a schedule
  • Must be able to complete cleaning duties checklist daily


Reports To: Property Manager

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing prior to or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires walking up and down stairs, must be able to bend, squat and be on feet, walking for most of the day.
