Engineer I, Industrial

Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Industrial Engineering Manager, the Industrial Engineer studies, plans, and coordinates manufacturing operations for the effective utilization of personnel (productivity), material, machines (efficiency), and facilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

• As guided by senior members of the team, establishes and continually improves Lean Manufacturing operational methods and work standards
• Participate in 5S initiatives, Kaizen events, 6 Sigma projects, and assist in the analysis and implementation of systems to increase efficiency, reduce inventories, and review other process improvement options
• Collaborate and communicate findings of assigned tasks using tools, process flow diagrams, and techniques including standardized work, line balancing, time studies, labor routing, theory of constraint, workstation design, and ergonomic assessments to assist manufacturing operations and other engineering teams to increase productivity and efficiency
• Create and implement new work instructions for all product types and processes within PSI
• Create and implement labor routings and time studies for all product types and processes within PSI
• Updates common templates, reports, and methods to provide data for management reporting systems
• Provide technical support for operations; serve as a technical liaison between product engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and customer service engineering
• Adhere to all safety procedures including the use of personal protective equipment and navigating the plant with alert behavior
• All other duties as assigned by management, including travel to other PSI facilities

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree, preferably in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another applicable engineering field
• Demonstrated knowledge in Industrial Engineering & Lean Manufacturing methods, tools, and techniques implemented in an ISO environment
• Applicable experience through work, internships, or school, utilizing Solid Works (may substitute Creo, AutoCAD, etc.) for 3D modeling

Preferred Qualifications:

• Aptitude and/or knowledge of internal combustion engines including engine components, accessories and electrical
• Experience and/or knowledge of one or more of the following components; design and implementation of plant layout, machine tool layout, material flow or equipment and process changes to drive results to continuously improve the manufacturing efficiency and quality
• ERP knowledge (Epicor, JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle)
• Familiarity with CAD, ideally Solid Works
• Experience working with high-volume manufacturing assembly, ideally Automotive environment with IATF 16949 certification
• 6 Sigma, 5S initiatives, Kaizen events, and/or Kanban experience
• Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles especially labor reporting and inventory accounting for use in developing metrics and gathering KPI data
