Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Manager of Special Events and Programs for Office Secretary of the University. This position reports directly to the Secretary of the University and is responsible for designing, planning, coordinating, and executing the Rutgers-New Brunswick & Rutgers Health Commencement ceremony to be held each May at the stadium.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Serves as a resource for other university departments needing general advice on event planning.
- Implements strategies and complete the necessary tasks for successful execution of these events by making independent judgement and decisions.
- Interacts with key members of the university community (executive administrators, faculty, administrative staff, students, and alumni) and external vendors and consultants in order to schedule and provide the services needed to execute successful events.
- Develops and maintains a congenial office environment where all members are treated with the utmost level of respect and professionalism.
- Supervises the Assistant Manager of Special Events and Programs, student interns, and a temporary seasonal employee during peak times.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Five (5) years of work experience in event planning/management, hospitality management, public relations, or a related field.

Certifications/Licenses |
- A valid driver's license would be required for this position; Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands.
|

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of Software and web page management.
- Experience in higher education and event planning or project management certification.
- Experience utilizing social media technologies to disseminate information, build interest surrounding events, and provide last minute details, emergency notifications, and event alterations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Some evening and weekend work.
- Flexible work schedule will be necessary.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 50lbs. in weight.
- A personal vehicle is required to enable the transport of event materials, and for site visits to academic units, university departments, and partner agencies.
