Description Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Database Developer to lead the migration of our database application from Oracle to PostgreSQL. This role requires a deep understanding of both Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, along with extensive experience in database migration projects. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the migration process, ensuring optimal performance, data integrity, and seamless integration with the existing application environment. Duration: 3-6 months Location: Irving, TX (100% onsite) Pay Rate: $60-80 an hour depending on experience Responsibilities: Analyze the existing Oracle database environment, including schema design, data volume, stored procedures, and dependencies. Develop a comprehensive migration plan covering data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL). Convert Oracle SQL and PL/SQL code into PostgreSQL-compatible SQL and PL/pgSQL. Optimize database performance during and after migration to ensure high efficiency. Conduct thorough testing and validation to ensure the migrated database application functions correctly. Collaborate with application developers to integrate the new PostgreSQL database into the application ecosystem. Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the PostgreSQL database post-migration. Document the migration process thoroughly and perform knowledge transfer to team members as needed. Job Requirements Required Skills / Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. At least 5 years of experience as a Database Developer. 5+ years of expertise in both Oracle and PostgreSQL database systems, including SQL and procedural languages (PL/SQL and PL/pgSQL). 5+ years of hands-on experience in large-scale database migration projects. 5+ years of experience in ETL processes and tools for data migration. 5+ years of strong knowledge of database optimization techniques and performance tuning. Ability to ensure data integrity and troubleshoot migration-related issues. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Skills / Qualifications: Familiarity with database migration tools such as ora2pg, AWS DMS, or similar solutions. Experience with PostgreSQL extensions and advanced features like partitioning or indexing strategies. Knowledge of application integration in multi-database environments. Experience working in Agile or DevOps teams. Certification in Oracle Database Administration or PostgreSQL is a plus.
