Safety Manager

Position Identification:

Exempt

Reports to: Operating Unit President

Position Summary:

Provide a broad range of hands-on support and services in all functional areas relating to Safety including: safety trainings, inspections, and investigations in alignment with the operating unit's business goals and objectives. The role's main focus is to create and sustain consistency in Safety compliance while providing new and innovative ideas to help build and promote teamwork, morale and growth.

Job Functions:

  • Plan, organize, and establish objectives and goals for projects assigned.
  • Assist with the onboarding process, ensuring that all new hires join the company in a positive and consistent manner across all locations, including a comprehensive introduction to the Tecta Safety Program.
  • Identify and implement communication initiatives for managers and employees to increase understanding and commitment to business strategies and programs.
  • Inspect facilities, jobsites, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance. Conduct regular safety audits
  • Investigate work related accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities/ jobsite inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Interview customers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
  • Follow through and follow up to completion of process providing status to OUP
  • Maintain & apply knowledge of current safety policies, regulations, and operational processes.
  • Conduct or facilitate supervisory and field level training of regional personnel.
  • Administer and ensure training policy compliance at the regional level.
  • Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Conduct meetings with supervisors and employees to discuss such points as the standards, cited violations, lessons learned, and potential hazards and to resolve disputes regarding occupational safety issues.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to work hazards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Construction safety experience
  • Knowledge of safety-related practices and procedures
  • Strong knowledge in the areas of Workers Compensation, OSHA, DOT, EPA
  • Computer skills and knowledge of office software packages including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program, including strong analytical abilities
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates
  • Strong knowledge of safety technical subjects, including OSHA regulations

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):

  • Fluent in Spanish, both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of business and management principles
  • Knowledge of accounting practices
  • OSHA 500
  • Roofing experience

Occupational Health and Safety:

  • Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety
  • Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace

Working Conditions:

Physical surroundings:Office environment with typical office machines and exposure to noise and temperature; Construction and Roofing Project sites with accompanying machinery, equipment, and materials.

Physical Effort: Extensive sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders. Repetitive keying, typing. Occasional lifting not to exceed 50 pounds

Travel: Occasional

Hours: Not subject to overtime
