Overview

Myriad's Salt Lake City automation team is a multidisciplinary group of engineers with backgrounds in mechanical, electrical, software, controls and service engineering. As the Automation Engineering Manager you will play a leading role in the scale-up of our automated laboratory to support the simultaneous processing of thousands of samples across multiple workflows. You will lead the team responsible for designing and integrating industrial and lab automation equipment in our laboratory and across other campuses within Myriad.

Responsibility



  1. Provide technical leadership and drive best practices for design, development, testing, and deployment of robotic systems.
  2. Provide guidance to team members and internal customers.
  3. Participate in development and optimization of liquid handling robotic processes.
  4. Write and maintain software for interfacing with liquid handling robots, other laboratory equipment, LIMS, and users.
  5. Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis.
  6. Participate in validation and testing of new liquid handling platforms.
  7. Develop and recommend methods, tools, and designs for process improvement.
  8. Document changes made using an internal ticketing system and source code repository.
  9. Help resolve production lab issues and engineer long-term solutions through root cause analysis and data analytics.
  10. Train and supervise other automation engineers.


Qualifications



  1. 7+ years of industry experience engineering laboratory automation solutions.
  2. BS or MS in a relevant field (biological or engineering).
  3. Prior experience working in a regulated environment with design control would be an asset.
  4. Biotech, pharmaceutical, lab automation, LIMS and/or clinical laboratory experience would be an asset.
  5. Excellent trouble shooting skills.
  6. Proficiency in object-oriented programming and automated liquid handling development required.
  7. Familiarity with molecular biology or chemistry techniques is expected.
  8. Experience with hand pipetting techniques is expected.
  9. Experience with liquid handlers like Biomek FX, Tecan EVO and Velocity 11, Hamilton products.
  10. Experience with .NET programming (VB, C#).
  11. Experience with Access or Oracle LIMS.


Physical Requirements

Lifting Requirements - light work or exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, and observing. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
