    Summary:

    The I & E Service Technician is primarily responsible for installing, diagnosing, and maintaining remote communications on natural gas compression equipment. The position also requires experience with programmable and non-programmable control systems on natural gas compression driven equipment. Familiarity with low and medium voltage electric motors and variable frequency drives is a plus. This position will provide support to the Operations Team and external customers as required. All USA Compression employees are responsible for maintaining a safe and professional work environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential duties for this position are listed below:


  • Ability to install and diagnose remote communications equipment.
  • Read and interpret manuals, standards, drawings, and schematics, including electrical and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's).
  • Read and interpret control narratives, sequence of operations, and cause & effect diagrams for control systems.
  • Ability to install and diagnose compressor instrumentation.
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot electrical systems with a focus on low and medium voltage electric motors and variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to install and troubleshoot programmable and non-programmable compressor control systems.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Operations Team and external customers.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to less qualified personnel.
  • Actively participate in internal and external training courses for personal development.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills/Capabilities and Education:



  • High school graduate.
  • State Electrical License.
  • Technical school certification, college degree.
  • 5+ years of I & E and control systems experience in the natural gas industry.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC hardware and programming.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant natural gas industry experience or equivalent work experience.
  • High degree of knowledge with instrumentation, electrical, and control systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, providing proactive communication at the field level to both peers and customers.
  • Valid driver's license with a Motor Vehicle Record history acceptable to USA Compression.
  • With minimum supervision, ability to schedule and complete work in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate with peers and external customers.
  • Ability to read and interpret process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's).
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics for electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret control narratives, sequence of operations, and cause & effect diagrams for control systems.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, as well as control system programming and operational software for various manufacturers utilized the natural gas compression space.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication from the company and supervisor including training, procedures, instructions, etc.
  • Applicant must have the ability to legally work in the U.S.



Working Conditions:



  • Typically, a workday consists of driving a USA Compression service vehicle to customer locations to perform installation and troubleshooting activities.
  • Periodic lifting requirements in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk on uneven and varied terrain, climb ladders and stairs; and stoop, squat, kneel, crouch and crawl depending on the task requirements.
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature and weather conditions depending upon assigned location.
  • Some exposure to high noise levels in excess of 85dBA that require ear protection, as well as exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Working conditions in natural gas compression vary from one job site to another. Some job sites are indoors in compressor stations while other sites are outside, exposed to a variety of weather conditions.
  • There is a strong emphasis on safety while working with and around heavy equipment and machinery.
