Description

The Town of Erie Parks & Recreation team is looking an organized and motivated individual to join us as our newest Recreation Assistant for the Rentals area! The Recreation Assistant will help the Recreation Coordinator manage a multitude of rental types at the Erie Community Center and park shelters.

This individual will assist with operational and administrative details of the rentals area and will need to be able to work with considerable independence within the scope of established policies and procedures.

All staff are expected to adhere to the Town's mission, vision, and TRUE Erie values.

Hiring Range:



$21.62/hr - $24.32/hr



Full Range:



$21.62/hr - $27.02/hr




ANTICIPATED WORK SCHEDULE:

Part-time (Monday-Friday shifts primarily); 20 hours/week expected to include mornings, nights, and weekends as needed; not to exceed 130 hours/month on average.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Duties



  • Assists recreation staff in developing, organizing, scheduling and promoting rentals, birthday parties, and events
  • Provides direct operational support to recreation staff which includes planning, purchasing, staffing, scheduling, and administration of rental operations
  • Communicates with patrons, staff, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and contractors to ensure smooth operations
  • Evaluates operational effectiveness and recommend new workflows and processes to improve rental operations
  • Completes a variety of paperwork including daily records, logs and incident reports
  • Maintains program related records. Reports issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings. May assist with training staff
  • May assist with recruiting, interviewing, training and scheduling volunteers and staff
  • Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests. Take appropriate action steps following any incidents within the facility
  • Remains composed and makes sound judgments in any emergency or non-emergency situation Responds to emergency situations, administers first aid, CPR or other medical attention as needed, and completes incident reports
  • Serves on committees and attend meetings as assigned. Tasks may include scheduling/running meetings, tracking budget line items, implementing staff appreciation events, and other tasks as assigned
  • Demonstrates outstanding internal and external customer service by upholding PEAK (Professional, Exceptional, Accountable, Knowledgeable) standards. Refers public to the appropriate Town contact
  • May serve or fill in for the Recreation Coordinator - Rentals in their absence

  • Serves as a professional ambassador of the Town by maintaining a professional image, a team-based collaborative approach and high ethical standards
  • Inspects facilities and program areas to ensure a safe environment. Reports safety concerns as needed.
  • Interprets, communicates and enforces all Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures within areas of program responsibility
  • Completes all required safety trainings in a timely manner
  • Develops and accomplish goals and objectives to support the Department and Town mission

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Two years related customer service, recreation or related experience preferred.



A combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS




  • Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certification within 3 months of hire





Pre-employment screenings include:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate leadership and communication skills and must possess knowledge of the principles, practices, trends and methods of recreational operations and programming in a community setting. Knowledge of guidelines and regulations related to Department, Town, County, State, and Federal policies and procedures also required.

Skills in: Initiative and decision-making; verbal and written communication;, leadership, and interpersonal relationships; basic financial methods of recreational programming; outstanding customer service to a diverse population; administrative functions; time management, meeting deadlines, responding to internal and external requests in a timely manner; the use of standard office equipment, computers, and various software programs; positive and professional working relationships with all Town staff and the community; conflict resolution; comprehending instruction, correspondence, and policies and procedures; problem solving; remaining composed in emergency situations and working effectively under stressful circumstances; performing CPR, First Aid, and AED to level of certification.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed in a standard recreational facility environment. Work may involve competing demands, and performing multiple tasks.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes of 30lbs or more.
