About the Job

The University of Minnesota Morris (UMM) is seeking an Accounting and Student Finance Specialist (Civil Service) to assist with performing financial analysis, account support, and student finance support for the Morris Campus. In addition, this position enforces University financial policy and provides Enterprise Financial System (EFS) request support for the UMM Financial Cluster and will also assist as the bursar and cash handler for the campus. Due to the nature of the work, this position must demonstrate confidentiality, sensitivity, knowledge and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

This is a full-time, in person position on the UMN Morris Campus with the potential to move to hybrid work.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Accounting, Expense Review and Approvals (50%)
    • Assist UMM employees with financial requests through our Financial Operations Center & troubleshoot issues
    • Uphold, enforce, and educate University financial policy on the Morris campus
    • Perform fiscal year-end review of balances and accounts for the campus
    • Audit and approve Travel and Employee expense reimbursements
    • Monitor EFS financial transactions for errors and issues daily
    • Reconcile student accounts receivable, third party, and admissions balance sheet accounts
    • Submit billing requests for some UMM departments
    • Assist with position and departmental budget entry
    • Annual NCAA financial reporting
    • Other tasks requested by the Finance Manager
  • Bursar, Cashiering & Student Finance (50%)
    • Assist with managing and reconciling the on-site cash needs of the campus on a regular basis
    • Responsible for managing daily cashiering spreadsheets/transactions for the campus
    • Accurately review and/or post student charges and review/approve/create departmental deposits
    • Reconcile issued checks, report transactions, and maintain the UMM Contingent Checking account
    • Collect and process non-sufficient funds and returned checks for UMM
    • Monitor, claim, and distribute electronic fund payments received for the the Morris Campus
    • Prepare, pay, and report online Minnesota Sales and Use Tax monthly, including journal entry
    • Participate in system student finance meetings
    • Post, track, and monitor student payments and charges are posted correctly
    • Enter, monitor, and reconcile third party payments on student accounts
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to equal four years
  • Demonstrated experience with Excel, Word and database management skills
  • Proven analytical, organizational, and general office best practice skills
  • Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Experience with University of Minnesota Enterprise Financial System, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student system
  • Working knowledge of University of Minnesota financial policies and procedures preferred
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $52,0000 - $58,0000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment, 12 Month Term

Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff
