Description

Bell Nursery, a business unit of Central Garden & Pet, is searching for a talented Logistics Manager to join our team. Bell Nursery grows, sells and merchandises potted plants to The Home Depot. The Logistics Manager is an integral part of our transportation team and will oversee the daily operations of our trucking logistics division in their assigned area. This role is responsible for managing transportation activities, optimizing routing, ensuring compliance with regulations, and coordinating between internal teams and external partners to enhance operational efficiency. Tasks and Responsibilities
- Execute logistical strategies for assigned facilities
- Manage and supervise all logistics and transportations operations for designated service areas
- Monitor and analyze transportation performance metrics; prepare reports for management.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to transportation and safety.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate supply chain activities and resolve any logistical issues.
- Oversee fleet management of designated facilities, including vehicle maintenance, scheduling, and route planning.
- Manage and coordinate deliveries and pickups from store locations, ensuring timely and accurate shipments.
- Collaborate with the Logistics Director to develop and implement processes to ensure efficient operations and improve department productivity
- Lead incident investigations to identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
- Train and supervise logistics staff, providing coaching and development as needed.
- Performs other related duties assigned.
Qualifications
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to function well in a fast paced and at times under stressful circumstances to meet deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and logistics software.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Candidate must be able to work weekends as appropriate
- Ability to interact with employees at all levels and maintain professionalism.
- Professional integrity and sense of responsibility and accountability.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not a requirement
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics and transportation management, preferably in trucking.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations, including local, state and federal regulations
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques, and emergency response protocols.
- Proficiency with computer-based management systems for logistical operations
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Must have valid state driver's license
Working Conditions
- Primarily an office setting requiring the ability to sit, stand and walk as needed to interact with employees and managers.
- Full time hours with occasional weekend availability during peak months of our season.
- Ability to travel throughout facility and outdoors as required to conduct safety inspections.
