Student Intern I - Technical Support Services

ETAS Inc. has an upcoming opportunity for a Technical Support Services Internship position at our office in Portsmouth, OH. This opportunity allows college students to assist in routine administrative and technical functions in areas of study. Such assistance, performed under direct mentorship and supervision, supports government environmental management projects. Applicable areas of study include, but are not limited to process engineering, quality assurance, technical writing, and project management.

Enterprise Technical Assistance Services, Inc. (ETAS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Professional Project Services, Inc. (Pro2Serve). ETAS was formed and dedicated to support the Department of Energy (DOE) Portsmouth/Paducah Project Office (PPPO) with technical and management services contributing to the safe and cost-effective implementation of environmental remediation and decontamination and decommissioning of the nation's Cold-War-era uranium gaseous-diffusion plants in Ohio and Kentucky.

The parent company, Pro2Serve, is a nationally recognized environmental, technical, and engineering services firm dedicated to providing critical environmental management services to reduce the Nation's environmental liabilities and infrastructure engineering services in support of national security. It supports the energy, defense, and science markets through responsive, cost-effective execution of critical environmental, facilities and infrastructure, and nuclear defense and nonproliferation projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Works under close ETAS supervision in performance of tasks supporting administrative or technical divisions including the following areas:

  • Provide technical oversight (surveillance, walk-throughs, audits, and any other form of operational review) of all phases of on-site contractor operations, system processes, and work activities.
  • Provide compliance status, recommendations for resolution, and/or reports to management and DOE on a daily, weekly, or other specified frequency.
  • Evaluate on-site contractor's compliance with applicable requirements or regulations in accordance with applicable programs and procedures; including, but not limited to, the Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan (QASP); Safety Basis; and Work Plans.
  • Maintain files, photographs, checklists, and other information collected as part of PPPO site contractors' firm-fixed-price work scope.
  • Provide technical review of plans, programs, procedures, deliverables, and other documents, as directed.
  • Review the on-site contractor's work status, progress, and schedule; develop and review cost estimates; review subcontracts and other contractual agreements; verify fixed-price work accomplishment against schedule; and review and comment on invoices.
  • Assist DOE in the management of the on-site contractor's subcontracts; and provide technical review/comment on contract changes including major system upgrades, modifications, and retrofits.
  • Assist DOE with drafting of contract documents, letters, reports, briefings, presentations, checklists, and other correspondence related to the on-site contractors, as requested.
  • Support DOE with determining the adequacy of comment resolutions. Provide timely responses and document revisions. Provide recommendations to DOE with adequately written justification. Support DOE's timely resolution of all issues identified by the Contractor, DOE, or other outside stakeholders.
  • Learn technical and/or administrative aspects of areas of study while supporting entry-level needs of the department.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well with coworkers, customers, and visitors.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

Qualification Requirements:

Education/Experience:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree and have completed a minimum of two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters of academic course work towards a specified degree relevant to ETAS' scope of work.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with the exception of students enrolled in an engineering degree; engineering students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.70


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret written documents such as regulations, standards, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematics Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish simple facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Physical Demands:

Duties of this internship require the ability to speak and hear or listen. It involves sitting for the majority of the day and intermittent standing, walking, climbing/balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and driving. Occasional field walk-downs will also be required.

  • Ability to perform primary office duties including heavy computer usage. In some cases radiological training may be required.
  • The intern must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
