Summary:

The Intern role provides administrative and project support within assigned department, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a healthcare environment.

The Healthy Aging team is a smaller team within the Community Health Initiatives Department at MH. Fall prevention, dementia care and research projects are a few of the areas we focus on. We work with evidence-based program delivery to help the health system become more skilled in fall prevention across different settings and in providing care to patients with dementia or cognitive decline. Our team consists of 11 people. We are located in the corporate office building at 110 Free Street in Portland, on the 2nd floor. We work closely with many community partners in Maine, as well as organizations around the country and are well known for our quality of programming and work.

We are excited to welcome an intern that will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to some of the projects that we are working on. The intern will have an opportunity to be trained in and deliver our fall prevention program for our patients. This is a virtual program and can be delivered remotely. The intern will also be involved in a research project we are working on. The student will also create a presentation to give to a national audience on fall prevention in July.

The daily tasks will have a fairly wide variety and will involve collaboration, delivery of programming, and contributing to furthering research. We will provide extensive training, mentoring and a unique opportunity to grow connections in Maine and across the nation. The ideal candidate will have an interest in working with older adults, desire to improve and practice their presentation skills, be interested in evidence-based program delivery, and working directly with patients to prevent falls, and support dementia-friendly care across different health system settings.

Preference will be given to undergraduate seniors and graduate students interested in working with older adults, or pursuing community health, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work or with evidence-based programs and in research.
