Position: Silicon Photonics Packaging Engineer Co-op

Education Recommendations

Current M.S. or Ph.D. student in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or other similar fields.


  • Contribute to the development of semiconductor and optical packaging processes, either in-house or in collaboration with external partners.
  • Collaborate on package design, ensuring alignment with technical and manufacturing requirements.
  • Conduct mechanical integrity and thermal simulations, tolerance analysis, and performance characterization.
  • Support prototype builds and contribute to early design validation.
  • Participate in debug activities during product validation and qualification.
  • Maintain design rule documentation and contribute to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) efforts.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and advanced packaging trends.
  • Experience or coursework in package and process design/development, from concept to production.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing, including 2.5D/3D packaging and TSV technologies.
  • Familiarity with documenting fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes.
  • Strong skills in problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Knowledge of optical epoxies, non-hermetic packaging, and thermal analysis of advanced packages.
  • Experience in semiconductor or wafer-level back-end processing, assembly, or packaging.
  • Familiarity with high-speed electronics or laser packaging design.
  • Experience with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS) for thermo-mechanical analysis.
  • Exposure to metrology techniques such as SEM/XSEM, confocal microscopy, or acoustic imaging.
  • Understanding of optical packaging design and simulation (e.g., free-space optics or fiber coupling).
  • Basic experience with Python scripting is a plus.
