Position: Mechanical Packaging Engineering Co-op Duration: 4 months Date: May 2025 - Aug 2025 Location: Sunnyvale, CA., New York, NY - onsite Education Recommendations Current M.S. or Ph.D. student in mechanical engineering, physics, or other similar fields or related field with an accredited school in US.
- Design mechanical packaging components and test fixtures using 3D CAD software.
- Create manufacturing drawings and documentation to contribute to new product development.
- Conduct thermal and mechanical integrity simulations, tolerance analysis, and performance characterization.
- Plan and oversee prototype assembly builds with external partners for early design validation.
- Participate in debug activities during product validation and qualification phases.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles and manage Bill of Materials (BOM) for packaging components.
- Stay current with emerging packaging technologies and tools.
- Experience with 3D CAD design, tolerance analysis, and GD&T using SolidWorks or similar software.
- Familiarity with thermal and thermo-mechanical simulation tools such as ANSYS.
- Ability to document fabrication, inspection, and assembly processes.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and people skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
It would be nice if you also had:
- Understanding of design for manufacturing in 2.5D/3D packaging.
- Experience in high-speed electronics or laser package design.
- Familiarity with metrology techniques such as SEM/XSEM, confocal microscopy, or acoustic imaging.
- Experience with optical packaging design and simulations, including free space optics or fiber coupling.
