This position requires a valid Indiana Class A CDL before starting. The CDL Material Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting materials and parts between company facilities and supplier locations in and around Decatur, Indiana. The Driver will also assist with loading and unloading materials, ensure accurate inventory levels, and maintain appropriate documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Transport trailers between facilities
  • Spot trailers at both facilities
  • Make occasional short runs
  • Perform daily vehicle operation and safety checks and record results
  • Replenish fluids and report discrepancies and malfunctions
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials; tie down or brace into position to avoid shifting in transit and ensure proper distribution of loads
  • Stage material on the truck to suit the route and for ease of unloading
  • Maintain packing lists and instructions
  • Obtain receipt signatures as required
  • Record log book
  • Communicate with the Supervisor to define material movement requirements and priorities
  • Inspect all incoming freight for damage and follow up with supervisor to resolve any damaged freight issues
  • Audit each shipment prior to packing to ensure the goods match the order
  • Pack and label product based on established standards
  • Put away material in the warehouse location using adequate space, consolidation, and inventory accuracy
  • Maintain inventory record accuracy through correct stock transfers and weekly cycle counts
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Work on the receiving dock and/or pick/delivery of parts
  • Provide vacation/absenteeism coverage

Qualifications

  • Class A CDL required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift license (must be able to obtain a company-issued forklift license)
  • Excellent, Positive attitude
  • Strong and consistent attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Team oriented
  • Familiarity with receiving, shipping, and warehouse practices and handling methods
  • Basic computer skills
  • scanner systems for inventory control applications, are required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform within physical requirements including, but not limited to 50 lb. single lift; walking, kneeling, squatting, and standing for long periods of time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Willing to learn and rotate within all areas and plants
  • Ability to climb a mobile stair ladder to a height of at least 20 feet

Work Environment

  • Will operate semi-truck and trailer and DOT pickup and trailer
  • May be required to work in all weather conditions
  • Will require driving in town
  • Will not involve GPS or oversized loads

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience preferred
