Overview:
We are seeking an Inventory Control Specialist in the National Isotope Development Center (NIDC) whose primary responsibilities are to maintain an up-to-date inventory for all isotopes produced within the U.S. Department of Energy Isotope Program (DOE IP) production network and to ensure physical inventories reported by each production sites align with data stored in the NIDC's enterprise resource planning system, SAP. This individual will also collaborate with NIDC colleagues on numerous cross-cutting tasks that benefit from their insights on isotope inventory data collection and tracking practices.

This position resides in the NIDC in the Isotope Science and Engineering Directorate (ISED), at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The NIDC provides numerous corporate services to the DOE IP and serves as its business interface, regularly communicating with the isotope user community and coordinating isotope production across numerous program facilities (including ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date inventory in the NIDC SAP system for all isotopes produced within the DOE IP production network, including ORNL, as well as returnable shipping containers (e.g., Biodex) used to ship certain isotopes.

  • Ensure physical inventories for isotopes and returnable shipping container reported by each production sites align with data stored in SAP.

  • Monitor inventory levels of stable isotopes at each production site intended for use as feedstock/target material for radioisotope production; help NIDC Product Line Managers (PLM) forecast when more should be shipped to site or procured from third party.

  • Provide input to the DOE IP Annual Production Plan at the beginning of each fiscal year and review monthly updates to ensure consistency with isotope inventory levels in SAP.

  • Assist NIDC Director and Financial Analysts with high-value isotope or isotope-related purchases that are coordinated through ORNL's procurement department.

  • Assist NIDC Director and Financial Analysts with maintaining Basic Ordering Agreements, including individual task orders, established with DOE IP University Isotope Network partners.

  • Assist NIDC Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Manager to establish and refine isotope product specifications published in the NIDC product catalog.

  • Provide input on isotope inventory levels for the NIDC monthly reports submitted to DOE Isotope Program management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS degree in a business-related or supply chain management field.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of ORNL's SAP enterprise business system and accounting practices.

Special Requirements:

  • Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
