Description

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for all aspects of payroll tax. Areas of responsibility include reporting, auditing, research, compliance, and process improvement related to federal, state, and local payroll tax for multiple legal entities. The Senior Payroll Tax Analyst is expected to work in a cross-functional manner with the broader payroll team and may also liaise with the corporate tax team. Payroll requires discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity.

  • Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
  • Meet all company and regulatory deadlines.
  • Review the accuracy of earning and deduction codes to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Responsible for bi-weekly post-payroll tax audit/reconciliation (US Wage & Tax Reports).
  • Resolves discrepancies and errors by coordinating with payroll accountants/manager. May include adding adjustments as part of regular payroll processing or preparation of off-cycle payroll runs.
  • Reconcile quarterly tax reports from payroll software tax service.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, or annual tax returns for jurisdictions not included in payroll software tax service.
  • Reconcile employee W-2 wage and tax annually and on a regular basis throughout the year to avoid excessive updates at year-end.
  • Set up new tax jurisdictions.
  • Research and respond to tax jurisdiction notices with support and approval of Payroll Manager.
  • Responsible for requesting W-2C and/or amended returns through payroll software tax service and reviewing for accuracy.
  • Main point of contact for federal and state tax audits related to payroll.
  • Stay up to date on current and future payroll tax regulations.
  • May be required to support Canadian payroll tax in the future.
  • Perform all responsibilities with absolute discretion, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree with 3+ years of experience in Payroll Administration. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Tax is preferred.
    • High School Diploma/GED with 6+ years of Payroll Administration experience also accepted
    • Payroll admin experience supporting 500+ employees is highly desired
  • Payroll Tax experience is highly preferred including setting up jurisdictions
  • Experience using VLOOKUP and PivotTables in Excel is highly desired
  • Experience using Dayforce or Ceridian is a plus. Experience in PeopleSoft, Workday, ADP, or Kronos also accepted.
  • Knowledge of current regulations related to payroll, payroll taxes, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
  • Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax rules and regulations.
