2025 Summer Intern - Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology - Janezic Lab

Department Summary

The Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology (BCP) department at Genentech develops relevant quantitative biochemical and cellular assays to support drug discovery efforts throughout all stages of the research pipeline. The department employs Scientists with a wide range of expertise and is recognized globally for its important contributions to drug discovery of various therapeutic modalities in diverse therapeutic areas. We are seeking a highly motivated summer intern to join our cell-based binding group to enable the development of novel assays to support the molecular characterization of the next-generation of therapeutic modalities.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • You will contribute to the development and implementation of novel cell binding assays to support cell therapies.

  • You will interpret and communicate results to internal and external collaborators.

  • During your internship you will be exposed to state-of-the-art cell based binding techniques.

  • You will have the opportunity to learn about the drug discovery process from lead identification to clinical candidate selection across multiple modalities and therapeutic areas.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education:

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree (enrolled student)

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program)

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree (enrolled student)

Required majors: Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Immunology, Biophysics, or related field.

Required skills:

  • At least 2 years of experience in an academic or industry research lab environment with a focus on immunology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or related field.

  • Extensive experience culturing both adherent and suspension mammalian cells.

  • Background knowledge of engineered cell therapies and/or biophysics.

  • Meticulous record keeping skills.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience working with primary immune cells or 3D model systems is a plus.

  • Background knowledge of engineered cell therapies.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $25.00-$40.00 per hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
