The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic medical leader to join the US Medical Affairs network of scientists at Genentech. This position will provide exceptional clinical and scientific leadership for medical affairs activities, aiming to generate and communicate medical evidence that aids practitioners, patients, and payers in making informed health care decisions. The successful candidate will exhibit outstanding communication and leadership skills, building strong relationships with key stakeholders. This role also requires representing the US Medical function within cross-functional teams and initiatives at Genentech, Roche's global organization, and external customer engagements, with an emphasis on leading fit-for-purpose teams, prioritizing work flexibly, and engaging in partnerships to address complex multidisciplinary challenges.

The Senior Medical Science Director will be a member of the USMA OMNI Scientific Collaborations team and reports into the Medical Manager, USMA OMNI Scientific Collaborations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-create, deliver, and execute the medical scientific collaboration strategy for Lupus Nephritis and Obesity/Diabetes, ensuring a customer-centric approach and medical impact.

  • Lead scientific collaboration initiatives including evidence generation, patient/HCP education, conference planning, and insights analysis aligned with disease area focuses.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders to address medical unmet needs and act as the single point of contact for professional societies/organizations.

  • Navigate political and operational frameworks of professional societies/organizations and explore collaboration opportunities with government and patient advocacy entities.

  • Partner with Medical Network and other functional groups to deliver scientific collaborations, manage budgets, analyze partnership outcomes, and represent Genentech externally.

Required Minimum Qualifications/Experience

  • Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g. PharmD, PhD, MD etc.)

  • Minimum 5-10+ years of relevant clinical / medical pharmaceutical/biotechnology and proven experience with deep knowledge of Obesity, diabetes, and/or lupus nephritis

  • Experience interfacing, building relationships, and managing complex collaborations with diverse stakeholders, including healthcare systems, professional societies, research organizations, and patient advocacy groups; prior external/customer-facing experience preferred (e.g., MSL)

  • Ability to navigate complex and challenging situations and flex and thrive in an ambiguous environment.

  • Exceptional business acumen and strategic thinking, capable of influencing senior executives for optimal business results.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including clinical, marketing, and communications.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to challenge the status quo using the best available information.

  • Acts with integrity, ensuring high standards of compliance, ethics, and safety, and can inspire and influence others with or without formal authority.

  • Capable of building strategic relationships, innovating, solving problems independently, representing the company, and willing to travel as needed.

This position is located in South San Francisco and offers a hybrid schedule working in the office 3 days per week. Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position is $193,400.00 - $359,200.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
