This is a full-time position at Waste Connections, Inc. located in The Woodlands, Texas. The position will be primarily responsible for management and support of all external and internal applications including design, development, content management and associated functionality. This position is a member of the Operations Applications Information Systems group and will be part of the Application Development Team.

Focusing on initiatives that will reduce call volume by automating customer requests via websites and customizing applications to fit our decentralized business model - allowing our consumers to serve themselves online.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Application Specialist should possess excellent communication skills including verbal, written, desk side and telephone etiquette. Above average ability to interpret, analyze, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems. Must be decisive, conscientious and interact well in a team environment or training capacity. Have a strong desire to learn and be able to follow policies and procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with a minimal amount of supervision. Must have a strong working knowledge of and experience with waste industry scale systems, basic accounting, computer hardware, software and peripheral devices in a post collection environment. Must provide a high level of interfacing with co-workers and communicate effectively with the clients, IT personnel and Management. The essential job functions are listed below:

  • Should have 3+ years related experience.
  • Must be able to travel throughout North America
  • Be proficient or become in the workings of the WasteWorks application
  • Create, modify and execute SQL scripts
  • Create /maintain Crystal and SQL reports linked to the application databases.
  • Maintain user accounts and permissions related to the application
  • Provide training to end users on use of the application
  • Act as the product liaison with end users understanding future needs.
  • Create and maintain scheduled tasksrelated to database backup and synchronization
  • Provide direct customer service and technical support to users as required via phone, e-mail, on-line systems and in person.
  • Provide professional and personal assistance to clients in answering inquiries, locating information and analyzing technical requirements at a moment's notice, sometimes in very stressful situations.
  • Provide professional and prompt responses to users for problem resolution, in person, verbally and in writing.
  • Must correspond professionally and promptly with co-workers and supervisors, in person, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to interface with individuals and professionals at all levels of the organization including Executives.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to work independently

EDUCATION / TECHNICAL EXPERTISE / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2 years or more experience managing accounts receivable application databases
  • Ability to work with level 1 users
  • Independent worker with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
    • Microsoft SQL databases
    • Crystal reports
    • SSRS reports
    • Strong analytical and communication skills
    • Configure and install PCs physically to local networks
    • Install and maintain peripheral equipment such as printers, scanners, etc.
    • Maintain skill set required to do job.
