Overview

Occupational Therapist

PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly)

Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM

Full Time + Benefits

Under the supervision of the PACE Program Manager provides occupational therapy services to the participants in the PACE program. Provides clinical supervision to the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.


Responsibilities

* Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement and Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures, in order to assure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

* Performs assessment screenings on potential PACE participants as assigned and makes appropriate recommendations for services.

* Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Maintains regular attendance and participates at interdisciplinary team meetings; collaborates on care planning and service allocation decisions.

* Completes participant occupational therapy evaluations as needed and develops a plan of care. Evaluates areas including but not limited to: functional, physical and ADL status, cognitive functioning, visual-perceptual status, feeding ability, cooking skills, bed mobility, wheelchair needs, home safety/environmental assessments and positioning assessments.

* Provides treatment as indicated and implements OT procedures consistent with achieving identified goals; grades activities to facilitate goals.

* Communicates regularly with contracted therapists as directed by IDT. .

* Provides regular updates to team on participant status in therapy, including discharge plans.

* Assesses need for adaptive and/or durable medical equipment (DME) and makes recommendations to interdisciplinary team. Receives required authorization prior to purchase of DME. Orders DME and provides follow up as needed.

* Participates in care plan development and discharge planning related to therapy services for participants placed in nursing home or other care facilities.

* Consults with Recreational Therapy Department regarding activity adaptations and/or alternative exercise programs.

* Assists in training of and provides professional supervision for Certified Occupation Therapist Assistants (COTA). Adheres to department policy and occupational therapy practice laws and reports to direct supervisor regarding these issues. Provides ongoing education to COTA(s).

* Trains, provides guidance and as appropriate, delegates restorative care plans to OT Techs and Therapy Aides.

* Provides training in body mechanics and use of assistive/adaptive devices to staff and caregivers.

* Educates staff, participants and family on services available through occupational therapy staff.

* Supervises students following occupational therapy practice guidelines.

* Reviews restorative care plans as directed by department policy.

* Completes documentation as required.

* Performs minor DME repairs as directed..

* Participates in committees as assigned by supervisor.

* Utilizes appropriate safety measures when providing treatment to PACE participants.

* Supports Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement efforts.

* Performs related services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department.

* Adheres to PACE Participants Rights Policy at all times.

* Protects privacy and maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee, participant/caregiver and agency information.

* Works sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.


Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited Occupational therapy program.

License(s)/Certification(s)

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Valid Auto insurance.
Maintains current State of Iowa OT license.
Maintains current CPR status.
Maintain current Mandatory Reporter
Maintain NBCOT registration.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Sound clinical skills and demonstrated good judgment.
Working knowledge of physical, mental and social needs of the frail elderly population.
Ability to problem solve and plan effectively.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Maintains and develops basic computer skills.
