Position Description

The Area of Finance in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Professor of Practice (all ranks) to begin Fall 2025. This position will support our newly established certificate in Investment Management and will also carry the title of Director of the Investment Management program.

About the College

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration is AACSB accredited and houses the School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in fulltime, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio. The College offers MS degrees in accounting, data science, finance, and marketing research and analytics. A Ph.D. in business administration is offered with tracks in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing. With a faculty of over 140 and a staff that exceeds 80, the college enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.

About the Department/School/Area

The Finance Area is one of six academic units, serving over 1,400 undergraduate majors. It encompasses the Excellence in Banking Program, offering a certificate in Commercial Banking; the Texas Tech Real Estate Center and Real Estate Program, which provide a certificate in Commercial Real Estate; and additional certificates in Investment Management and Corporate Risk Management & Insurance. With 22 full-time and emeritus faculty members, the department is dedicated to teaching excellence and advancing high-quality academic research within a collaborative environment. The Finance Area provides outstanding support for faculty research, teaching, and student engagement.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Area of Finance, you will be expected to:

  • Lead the development and expansion of the newly6 established Investment Management Program.
  • Mentor and actively engage with students pursuing the Investment Management Certificate.
  • Teach Finance courses at the undergraduate and master's levels.
  • Supervise and guide the Student-Managed Investment Fund.

Faculty Qualifications


  • PhD in Finance or substantial industry experience in investment management.
  • Academic research program or industry engagement sufficient to meet and maintain AACSB qualification standards.
  • Dedication to excellence in teaching in both in-person and online environments.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Significant industry experience in investment management.
  • Strong commitment to student engagement and mentorship.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for cultivating and sustaining industry relationships.
  • Established track record of excellence in teaching.
  • CFA Charterholder.
