This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA (on-site). The Opportunity
- Develop platform X-Ray Fluorescence methodthat can quantify elements of interest in the functional excipients like Magnesium Stearate, Sodium Cross Caramellose Calcium Phosphate found in various oral solid dosage formulations
- Conduct experimental testing to validate and test the X-ray fluorescence method for excipients in various drug product blends and tablet formulations
- Compare the X-ray fluorescence results for excipients in various drug product blend and tablet formulations to orthogonal methods, like mixed mode HPLC method with CAD detector for excipient detection and quantification
- Collaborate with scientists to analyze results, interpret data, and document findings for potential workflow improvements in X-Ray Fluorescence and mixed mode HPLC method with CAD detector for excipients detection and quantification
- Meet regularly with the mentor to discuss progress, results, and future plans. Engage in team collaborations to meet research goals.
- Attend department meetings and trainings.
- Summarize key research findings during the internship, deliver oral and poster presentations to the SMAC department and gRED scientific community as well as write a research article for publication in a scientific journal
Program Highlights
- Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are (Required) Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).
- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a Master's Degree.
- Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a PhD.
Required majors:Analytical Chemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Material Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related. Required skills:
- Knowledge of vibrational spectroscopy, chromatography, and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy.
- Experience with chemometrics and multi-variate modeling on spectroscopy data is a plus
- Great communication skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Skill in data summarization and presentation is desired.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $23-$45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
