The Position

2025 Summer Intern - Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (Biotransformation)

Department Summary

The DMPK Department is dedicated to enabling the discovery, development, and commercialization of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and pharmacokinetic properties of small molecule drug candidates. We accomplish this through the application of state-of-the-art technologies and sciences of bioanalysis, drug metabolism, drug transport and pharmacokinetics.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

  • Design and execute experiments to support the study of reactive metabolites and their impact on proteins using mass spectrometry.

  • Develop and perform proteomics workflows for the analysis of biological samples.

  • Perform biochemical assays to assess drug metabolism.

  • Participate in the analysis and interpretation of analytical data.

  • Compile experimental results and present research findings in team meetings.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer) 2025.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required majors: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other related disciplines.

Required Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with bioanalytical mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS) with proven ability to develop and employ bioanalytical workflows for the analysis of proteins or small molecules.

  • Familiarity with proteomics analysis tools and/or drug metabolism is desired.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly for assessing assay data and performance.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 per hour.Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
