Part-time CVT Lab Assistant-Veterinary Technology Program
Hourly Rate: $19.61

The CVT
lab assistant is responsible for working under the direction of and providing
support to the Veterinary Technology course faculty by preparing
demonstrations, organizing supplies and equipment, and observing student
performance and testing.
The CVT Lab
Assistant is a part-time, 19 hour-or-less per week, 9-month appointment on a
schedule established by the Program Director for Veterinary Technology. The position occasionally involves handling
confidential information and records. At times, minimal supervision is provided; a Lab Assistant must be able
to work independently and accurately prioritize tasks.

Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare laboratory environments for instruction by assembling necessary resources.
- Assist faculty with demonstrations, observation, and evaluation of student lab performance.
- Reinforce knowledge and skills introduced by the course faculty.
- Monitor and assess daily care and health including daily medical treatments of the program's animals.
- Clean and maintain lab equipment.
- Handle animals for lab use.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate Degree from an AVMA accredited School of Veterinary Technology.
- Must be a Certified Veterinary Technician in the State of Illinois.
- Experience in areas of small animal, lab animal or large animal nursing, anesthesia, dentistry, and assistance with routine surgical procedures.
- Verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to perform duties and communicate effectively.
- Sensory and physical requirements related to performing the essential functions of a Vet Tech.
- Ability to handle equipment or large animals weighing up to 50 pounds with no assistance.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
