Position Description

Provides specialized retention outreach and support services to students and serves as an Academic First Responder to at-risk students. Communicates with students digitally and in-person to provide holistic student support including academic development plans, resource referrals, and academic and career goal setting . Works directly with an academic college and participates in ongoing training and professional development to effectively support student success. The Student Success Specialist position is currently restricted for use in Academic Innovation & Student Success.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Provides support for groups of students on scholarships.
  • Build strong College and campus partnerships through regular communication, meetings, and collaborative efforts.
  • Collaborates with scholarship partners to plan, implement, and assess programming.
  • Implements specific initiatives such as completion and enrollment campaigns in conjunction with Raider Success Hub.
  • Provides high-touch, holistic retention outreach and support to a cohort of undergraduate students and connects them with appropriate resources to increase likelihood of personal and academic success.
  • Utilizes designated technology to maintain accurate records of outreach and student meetings for department reporting. Monitors student progress and utilizes markers such as alerts, probationary statuses, accounts holds, and low midterm grades to identify student retention concerns and facilitate successful interventions.
  • Participates in centralized retention initiatives such as calling campaigns, tabling at student success events, campus wide outreach events, and supporting students via live chat.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, plus two years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications


  • The diverse nature of this position requires a professional with knowledge of and/or experience with student development programs on a college campus.
  • A master's degree in counseling, higher education, or other related field is strongly preferred.
