Description - External
School Counselor will support the Special Education Teacher in the implementation of curriculum instruction and in
maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. They will demonstrate a commitment to the school program and a
willingness to remain flexible. The School Counselor will maintain a commitment to professional growth and competency
to exhibit positive behavior towards students, parents and staff. They will model appropriate social cues and body
language and facilitate students sensory integration breaks. In addition they will perform clerical and technical duties as
assigned and be responsive to issues presented in supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement academic work and behavior cueing.
Observe behaviors and make necessary interventions in order to maintain the safety of all students and staff.
Plan academic and break time activities as assigned.
Attend weekly staff meetings, clinical rounds and group supervisions.
Provide milieu supervision. If a student is elevated, monitor behavior and provide supervision.
Report any student incidents/concerns to Team Leader, fill out appropriate forms.
Support Director with ongoing development of Pathways Academy.
Support Director in the screening, assessment and planning for prospective students.
Interact with students, family members and referring school districts in a courteous and professional manner.
Provide substitute coverage for coworkers as needed

Qualifications

Qualifications - External
Bachelor's degree preferred
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Flexibility, knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills
