Job summary: Responsible for verification of benefits for all hospital patients. Arranges for the efficient and orderly pre-admission of inpatients and outpatients, and appropriate follow up for emergency department admissions. Ensures that the patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into computer database. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintains pre-registration a minimum of two weeks ahead of scheduled procedure date.
  • Verifies coverage eligibility and benefits for medical insurance through employer or organization.
  • Documents all insurance information completely and neatly on face sheets, specifying any per diem and/or pre existing conditions and any other pertinent information
  • Notifies case management of admit for authorization and concurrent review for medical justification of hospitalization on a daily basis

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to type 40 wpm comprehensive general clerical skills and computer literacy required. Medical terminology preferred
