Purpose

This work will support design and development of alternative parallel computing paradigms applicable to modern scientific computing workloads (such as those served by NSF and other large-scale R&D agencies) on supercomputers and similar environments. Such development may include implementation of novel approaches such as hardware-software systems in computing accelerators, among other possible approaches. The position will work in support of research directions determined by TACC's Director of Future Computing Architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Drawing upon a base of established research this position will design, develop, evaluate, and implement novel approaches to parallel computing in the context of numerical scientific modeling and simulation workflows to meet the principal design objective of dramatically increasing performance of applications heavily dependent on dynamic irregular and time-varying graph data structures.
  • Contribute to TACC's future computing plans and architecture design decisions for future scientific computing platforms, methods, and programming, identifying new requirements for future systems and emerging technologies from leading suppliers to meet the emerging needs of TACC's user and stakeholder communities.
  • Engage scientific computing user and provider communities to evaluate evolving requirements and emerging trends in technology solutions while representing TACC's capabilities and plans to national and international stakeholders.
  • Pursue and obtain external funding to enhance activities, expertise, and resources at TACC.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in EE, CS, or a discipline relevant to this position, and ten years of relevant experience.
  • Significant research publication, finding,and implementation experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful hardware, software, and co-design research projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fifteen or more years of post-graduate experience in a position or positions related to the TACC mission.
  • Experience working with or for federal funding agencies in research infrastructure.
  • Experience with large scale scientific software, at both the systems and application levels, as well as translating these codes for hardware acceleration.
  • Experience with hardware techniques for acceleration of graph-based algorithms.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
