Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
Nov 21, 2024
The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

At Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED) we have initiated an exciting journey to bring together and further strengthen our computational talent and capabilities by forming a new, central organization - gRED Computational Sciences (gCS). gCS is on a mission to partner across the organization to realize the potential of data, technology and computational approaches that will revolutionize how targets and therapeutics are discovered and developed, ultimately enabling novel treatments for patients across the world. We stand at the beginning of an exciting journey.

The Computational Catalysts group within gCS is a diverse, curious and action-motivated team at the intersection of computation, engineering and science with goal of advancing our technical excellence. The focus of the team is on partnering with the informatics and scientific communities to create a computational and data ecosystem that powers scientific discovery and accelerates our therapeutic pipelines. We aim to modernize our ability to acquire, store, link, share, find and analyze data across the organization through scalable and integrated solutions that truly make every data point count.

The Data Solutions and Engineering group within Computational Catalyst is accountable for establishing a common Data Fabric which connects our Systems, specifically our Data Pipelines and Applications. This team strives to build delightful applications and systems for our stakeholders with a strategic mindset. The team is responsible for the end to end product lifecycle management and the work done is leveraged downstream for building key scientific insights and enabling our ML/AI workflows and models. The DSE team in gCS Computational Catalysts is seeking a talented and experienced informatics systems analyst to support scientific data management efforts with an emphasis on digital pathology and molecular imaging.

We are looking for someone who wants to influence their own development and is looking for a company where they have the opportunity to pursue their interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who they are, but the starting point.

The Opportunity:

  • Partner closely with scientific stakeholders to envision, implement, and support informatics tools and business processes that enhance our ability to acquire, store, transform, visualize and analyze imaging data.

  • The imaging informatics systems analyst is responsible for driving a variety of complex informatics projects and services to enable the storage, organization, dissemination, and analytics of dynamic drug R&D data.

  • Lead scientific business analysis efforts to understand current and emerging needs related to digital pathology and molecular imaging.

  • Assist with strategic planning and implementation of data management solutions for multiple functions to ensure data accessibility, quality, and integrity.

  • Establish standardized processes and develop tool sets for collection, transformation and visualization of large dynamic data sets. Identify opportunities and implement solutions to streamline data management work flow and to enable data analysis for organizational functions.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years relevant experience in work as an informatics systems analyst; or Master's degree with 6+ years, or PhD degree with 3+ years relevant experience; or equivalent experience. Degree in a scientific discipline preferred. Advanced degree a plus.

  • Previous experience working in a lab utilizing digital pathology, high content screening, organ on a chip and organoid imaging is highly desired. Previous experience with image analysis in these areas is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience with Python programming. Working familiarity with SQL and graph databases is also highly preferred and 5+ years of experience in AWS (or equivalent) services and technologies (EC2, Batch, Lambda, S3, FSx, EFS).

  • 3+ years in documenting detailed software requirements, user stories, business processes, and/or software specifications for both custom and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems].

  • Experience working in a life sciences or biopharmaceutical environment such as early-stage research, drug discovery, development, or other biological sciences discipline is preferred. Thorough understanding of R&D processes and scientific data life cycle. Able to bridge the disciplines of drug development and informatics.

  • Proven track record of supporting teams that deliver effective data management and analysis solutions. Ability to make responsible project decisions with minimal supervision.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Able to present your work, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including scientific stakeholders and technical teams.

Not sure you meet all qualifications? Let us decide! Research shows that women and members of other under-represented groups tend to not apply to jobs when they think they may not meet every qualification, when, in fact, they often do! We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and strongly encourage you to apply.

Onsite presence, on our South San Francisco campus, is expected for at least 3 days a week.

Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.
