Purpose of Position
Supervise the performance of preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and modifications to systems and equipment, including but not limited to campus electrical systems, elevators, lighting systems, and clock systems.

Work schedule including days & hours are subject to change depending on the needs of the University and the Facilities Management Operations & Maintenance Department. This position is "mission critical".
Primary Responsibilities
Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for the universities electrical and lighting systems.

Estimate the time and material cost of work orders and projects, share supported data with the Superintendent. Order and purchase materials according to established guidelines and within budgetary constraints. Maintain Material inventories; maintain service, repair, and other records as required.

Establish preventive maintenance schedules; recommend priorities of repair projects; respond to after-hour emergency situations as directed.

Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, instructions and applicable federal, state and local codes; direct any rework or modification. Conduct periodic inspections of university electrical systems to determine repair needs.

Install, service, maintain, regulate, repair and replace electrical fixtures and equipment to comply with the National Electric Code, Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA), other requirements, and state and local guidelines.

Safely use all tools of the electrical trade. Inspects equipment and tools to ensure they are safe and in good working order.

Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring performance evaluations, promotions, corrective actions and vacation schedules.

Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, manuals, diagrams, and contract specifications. Provide feedback on projects before and during construction, and update files and plans to reflect changes in electrical.

Train and coordinate training in Electrical Maintenance and Safety methods, procedures, and techniques.

Adjusts working hours and/or works overtime as needed on weekends, evenings and other hours outside normal schedules as required to meet the needs of the University.

Perform related duties as assigned and assist other trades as needed.
Qualifications

  • Prefer Vocational Degree in Electrical
  • Supervisory/personnel management training also strongly preferred.


Acceptable equivalency would be high school diploma/ GED with Electrician's License and 5 years of related experience, two of which are in a supervisory capacity.

Must possess:
1. valid driver's license.
2. Kentucky State Electrical Journeyman License
3. Above average computer skills.
4. ability to communicate clearly both orally and written.
5. ability to work with various types of related equipment
6. ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, kneel, push, work in confined spaces, perform work above head level for extended periods of time.
7. perform medium heavy and maximum physical exertion and lift up to 50 lbs or more on a regular basis.
