We are looking for an Exploration EVA Services Engineer (Member of Technical Staff/ Project Engineer - Systems Engineering). This position provides engineering system management and insight for new spacesuits and tools within NASA's Crew and Thermal Systems Division (CTSD) of the JSC Engineering Directorate. This includes coordination with system managers, project managers, and technical discipline leads, as well as analysts and designers. This position is a great opportunity in a highly dynamic organization with multiple customers and stakeholders both inside and outside of NASA.

Work Model

This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston TX, offering a hybrid work model that combines at least 3-4 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Review technical comments to vendor products from across the agency and work with the vendors to finalize those products.
  • Evaluate whether xEVAS vendor technical work products meet the contractual requirements.
  • Engage, interact, and provide support for work across a broad range of teams including system management, project management, technology maturation and development, and subject matter experts within the JSC Engineering Directorate.
  • Coordinate NASA technical experts and stakeholders to perform insight and risk mitigation activities.
  • Conduct assessments of designs and provide assessments of the ability of the design to meet requirements, including review of Hazard Analysis to ensure hazards are controlled and the required level of fault tolerance is achieved.
  • Review test plans, analysis methods and assumptions, and test/analysis results to verify ability of the test to mimic flight conditions and provide clear success/failure criteria.
  • Review and provide recommendation for approval/close out Data Requirement Documents (DRDs) and other contract deliverables, as required.
  • Provide assessments of vendor designs, tests and analysis.
  • Identify and communicate risks and mitigation options to the program.
  • Provide support for requirements, design, and safety reviews.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the <Senior Member of Technical Staff- Systems Engineering>

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline
  • At least 3 years of professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a system engineering and technical program/project management
  • Ability to effectively utilize oral and written communication to express technical concepts and recommendations to personnel at all technical and managerial levels
  • Ability to work effectively and quickly in real-time environments of rapid-change, conflicting requirements, and occasional pressure
  • Willing to travel occasionally to vendor location or another NASA center
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the <Project Engineer- Systems Engineering> include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline
  • At least 6 years of professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a system engineering and technical program/project management
  • Experience performing or leading technical and programmatic tasks for NASA
  • Experience with system engineering principles and practices, spaceflight hardware design and certification, and system management

  • Familiarity with NASA standards and specifications
  • Experience in requirements, design, and development of Class I human spaceflight hardware
