About the Department

The Undergraduate Admissions Office (UAO) provides leadership for prospect management, student recruitment and communication, application processing, the prospective student visit experience, yield strategy and coordination, market research, long-range planning, and admissions volunteer engagement. UAO also directs university-wide enrollment efforts for special populations, including the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of underrepresented students and international students. The office coordinates these functions for Cornell's undergraduate divisions (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; College of Architecture, Art, and Planning; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Engineering; College of Business; College of Human Ecology; School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Brooks School of Public Policy).

The Opportunity

Join our dynamic team as an Assistant Director of Admissions where you will play a vital part in accomplishing the University's enrollment goals and supporting Cornell's diverse, world-class students and their success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment: Assist in developing strategies to identify and recruit high-quality and diverse candidates (including under-served, under-resourced, underrepresented, first-generation, high achieving/low income, and undocumented students). Counsel and advise prospective students and caregivers on matters of admissions, including responding to prospective student queries in person and via email, phone, and chat. Assist with engagement and communication response for high schools, community-based organizations and alumni ambassadors to plan and develop recruitment events, including planning, developing and conducting information sessions and workshops.
  • Yield and Outreach Activities: Assist with the planning, management, and execution of events and programs associated with Cornell Days, Diversity Hosting, and virtual engagement of admitted students through on-campus and virtual information sessions.
  • Digital Communications: Coordinate complex digital communication, including writing, proofing, editing, and texting electronic outreach efforts.
  • Admissions: Conduct application academic reviews and specialized review of admission applications for fellowship program selection.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement based in Ithaca, NY.

What We Need

  • Bachelors degree with at least two years of admissions experience or student services experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and writing abilities required.
  • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't:

  • Masters degree.
  • Direct experience with admissions and recruitment in a highly selective and competitive environment.
  • Experience with Slate Technolutions.
