Who We Are

Position Summary
This position will perform a variety of complex fiscal duties in support of accounting services by interpreting and applying rules and procedures to specialized fiscal operations. Responsibilities include reviewing, developing, and maintaining accurate record keeping; reviewing fiscal activity for compliance with federal and state regulations; and exercising independent judgment in job process and problem resolution. This position reports to the Budget Specialist and works closely with the Financial Services team.



Essential Functions

  • Develop, modify, and maintain multiple record keeping and reporting systems for varied and complex sources of funding; develop procedures for implementation, execution, control and review/audit of fiscal operations;
  • Establish and maintain program budgets to support program planning goals and directives.
  • Develop multiyear budgets for funding requests; prepare appropriate forms for contracts and agreements;
  • Forecast fiscal needs/commitments; develop long-term planning documents; participate in the planning of new programs by conducting analysis of unit needs and resources and making revenue projections;
  • Consult with funding agencies to resolve problems and/or obtain approval for deviation from authorized procedures or expenditures;
  • Investigate and resolve accounting and bookkeeping issues such as bank reconciliations, enrollment revenue generation, gross and net income statements, and expense reporting.
  • Prepare specialized reports; conduct special studies to research and/or justify fiscal requests/needs;
  • Evaluate unit programs through comparison of actual performance with budgeted/planned objectives; research and determine causative factors in expenditure trends; formulate and recommend corrective action;
  • Analyze, modify and recommend improvements in subsidiary and general fiscal recordkeeping systems; apply knowledge of accounts and program relationships, data flow, audit trails and internal controls to design and implement financial data systems;
  • Select, develop, implement and/or modify manual or automated fiscal reporting/tracking systems to address specific unit needs;
  • Audit and reconcile monthly accounts and prepare general ledger transfers
  • Process manual or automated fiscal documents, reports and records; compute, reconcile, adjust, review, audit and enter financial and statistical data to maintain accounting, budgeting, cashiering, purchasing, and reports.
  • Compute and balance financial transactions.
  • Assist students, parents, staff, faculty and community members in person, over the phone and by email. Research, interpret, and answer a wide variety of questions and concerns involving complex programs.
  • Establish files and filing systems and perform research as requested
  • Perform other duties as assigned;

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 such as record keeping and fiscal administrative support.
  • 15 quarter hours or 10 semester hours of college level accounting -OR- equivalent education/experience.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Strong computer experience utilizing a variety of business management tools
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check
  • The worksite for this position is located at the Tacoma Campus. A potential for flexible telework schedule may be approved for this position by the supervisor.
  • Must be available to attend regular in-person activities at the worksite

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time overtime eligible classified position scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm during the academic year. The salary range for this position is $3,811 - 5,117 monthly. Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet the needs of the division.
