Overview
The library assistant helps to maintain and operate the Anne Carroll Moore Library at the Edith Bowen Laboratory School as well as support the media needs of students. Hours will be 8:00am - 10:00am Monday - Thursday, 8:00am - 11:00am Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Work at circulation desk, aiding patrons in checking in and out library materials and updating patron information in the computer system
  • Support library makerspace including managing materials and programming, and working with students on maker activities
  • Oversee and assist students individually and as a group with keyboarding skills
  • Have knowledge of the library/media collection and assist patrons in finding and using materials
  • Assist in maintaining general and special collection - conducting inventories, shelving books, searching for missing items, etc
  • Perform secretarial responsibilities - distributing information, contacting patrons about overdue books, collecting fees, etc
  • Assist students individually and as a group during library time
  • Assist students individually and as a group with keyboarding skills
  • Cover library responsibilities when the head librarian is not available
  • Assist with Library Leader program


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience working with kids
  • Experience with customer service

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a library setting
  • Experience with makerspace technologies and materials

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Positive, solutions-oriented personality
  • Flexible and quick to learn
  • Highly adept with technology and various office software applications (Microsoft, Google Suite, etc.)

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.
