Prison Horticulture Specialist (PT)

Assist the TCC horticulture program at Dick Connors Correctional Center located at 129 Conner Road in Hominy, Oklahoma 74035. This position will work closely with the TCC Prison Education Program Coordinator. The part-time Horticulture Specialists assists the TCC Prison Education Program Coordinator, horticulture faculty, and students in a support role and overseeing the horticulture area.

Assist in oversight of the TCC horticulture activities at Dick Conner Correctional Center.

Maintain greenhouse equipment, take plant supplies inventory, plant distribution and installation, equipment sign-in/sign-out logs, supervise student gardening projects, identify goals within the program, arrange season maintenance, and support students in their horticulture needs by assisting in research and problem solving with TCC Prison Education Program Coordinator.

Design and implement gardening activities tailored for the prison environment, guide daily gardening tasks, including planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.

Collaborate with TCC Prison Education Program Coordinator to develop and manage the horticulture budget, including tracking expenses, and forecasting costs.

Research job opportunities in the horticulture industry for graduates in landscape and horticulture upon release.

Active involvement in Horticulture Advisory Board activities and meetings.

Require a High School diploma or GED Degree.

State of Oklahoma Pest Control License / Training.

Strong communication skills and ability to work with all groups.

Understanding of sustainable gardening practices.

Ability to work in a correctional facility environment.

Associate's degree or equivalent education.

Prefer demonstrated experience in horticulture and criminal justice.
