Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering a closely related discipline in hand by the start of the appointment. Preferred Qualifications: Brief Description of Duties: Specific scientific duties and responsibilities include: * Combined theoretical and hand-on fracture mechanics analysis of materials fabricated. Emphasis on tensile strength, ductility and fracture toughness of high-temperature materials. * Processing of advanced metal alloys, ceramics, and metal/ceramic matrix composites using powder-based techniques including but not limited to high energy ball milling, spark plasma, hot isostatic pressing, and various additive manufacturing techniques as well as post processing for tuning microstructure through heat treatment and thermomechanical processing. It is also possible for a candidate to work with processing team-members to carry out processing while the candidate emphasizes the remaining skills. * Detailed microstructural examination of candidate materials using scanning electron microscopy, benchtop x-ray diffraction, synchrotron x-ray scattering, and advanced spectroscopy techniques. * Thermal stability and thermophysical property measurements including sample preparation and experimental campaigns combining ex situ furnace aging, differential scanning calorimetry/differential thermal analysis, laser flash analysis, and dilatometry. * Fundamental understanding of materials science principles underlying processing and interpretation of data and effective communication in scientific literature. * Writing and management of laboratory user proposals. * Other duties as assigned Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
