Research Assistant

Johns Hopkins University
United States, Maryland, Baltimore
Nov 19, 2024

The Center for Public Health and Human rights, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is currently seeking a Research Assistant to support the implementation of cross-sectional behavioral and biological surveys in West and Central Africa. Public health workers need methods to estimate population sizes of hidden high-risk groups to lobby for appropriate interventions that are large enough to meet the needs of the population and efficiently allocate resources. Available data on the absolute size of key populations are often not collected through rigorous study and lack technical quality. This study will assist the selected countries in strategizing, prioritizing, and defining investments for key populations services based on the population size and level of HIV risk behavior.

The research will focus on estimating the size of key populations, mapping HIV prevention services, and assessing the prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The project is supported by the Global Fund through the National AIDS Committees and other stakeholders in the region. We are providing the technical support for this project in partnership with a long-standing collaborator, ENDA Sant. More specifically, the research assistant will participate in a variety of activities including support regular data management and analysis, develop research team training materials, program study tools, develop reports and presentations. However, most importantly, the research assistant will engage with various partners from the government and civil society and participate in meetings while supporting the implementation of the work in the various countries.
