JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor - Sociology

JOB PURPOSE:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology invites applications for one (1) tenure track position in Sociology starting Fall Semester, 2025. This position will be hired at the Assistant Professor rank with a preferred specialization in environmental sociology and/or green criminology. The University of Wyoming's teaching load is 2-3 with course reductions possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach 5 courses over the academic year
  • Maintain active scholarly research and professional development
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

As directed

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sociology at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in Sociology at the college and/or university level.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated expertise in the area of environmental sociology and/or green criminology.
  • Demonstrated research interest in energy transitions and collaborating across the university on issues related to energy transitions in Wyoming or the surrounding region.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda leading to peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach classes including introduction to sociology, green criminology, environmental sociology, and social movements.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of our undergraduate program with traditional classroom instruction and online education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate advising and service.
  • Potential for grant activity.

1) A vita that thoroughly covers academic and professional work history;

2) A cover letter that addresses the applicant's:
  • Interest in and qualifications for the position,
  • Ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda that will lead to peer reviewed publications and potential for grant activity,
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college and/or university level,
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to the delivery of the Criminal Justice undergraduate program (traditional classroom instruction as well as online education),
  • Commitment to undergraduate advising and service;

3) Statement of teaching philosophy, summary of teaching evaluations, and evaluations from the two most recent courses (if available)

4) Contact information for four references, who may be consulted regarding the applicant's qualifications and suitability for this position.
