Under direct supervision and following established procedures and instructions, provides basic direct care to patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse. Assists patients with feeding and hygiene, obtains, measures and records routine information such as temperature, pulse and blood pressure, and performs other related duties according to specific needs of unit. Transports patients. Manages supplies and equipment per unit as needed.

Provides and anticipates assistive care to patients according to established procedures and instructions as delegated by the registered nurse. Collects, measures and records basic patient data, such as vital signs, intake and output. Turns and positions patients and assists with feeding, dressing, hygiene and grooming. Performs other related duties to provide patients with comfort, diversion or safety. Obtains specimens according to nursing care plan and established procedures. Prepares specimens for laboratory analysis and performs routine tests as directed. Identifies and reports unusual findings or changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse. Assists in unit response to emergencies according to established hospital and unit procedures and delivers supplies/equipment as needed in emergencies. Periodically inspects and removes dust on all unit equipment, i.e. Pyxis, code cart, IV poles, carts, etc. Performs daily check of code cart and equipment and restocks items as requested. Effectively assists with hygiene, grooming and dressing. Bathes patient or assists patient/family with bathing. Assists patient with oral hygiene, hair care, shaving and toileting. Correctly and effectively assists patients with feeding and is aware of any food allergies as listed in the support/care plan. Properly identifies patients and follows proper procedure before passing tray, or giving formula bottle or human milk. Assists with menu selection - Prepares patients for meals Identifies that patient has the correct tray and food before passing trays. Feeds patients. Provides nourishment and hydration to patient's in-between meals. Correctly prepares occupied and unoccupied beds according to established procedures. Establishes supportive relationships with patients and families as appropriate. Provides care and support, as needed, to patients with a variety of behavioral health needs. Closely monitors and maintains the safety of patients as instructed for 1:1 care for suicide watches and behavior management. Observes patient behaviors and conditions and reports any concerns, changes or escalating behaviors to the RN In conjunction with registered nurse, conducts environmental checks, helps identifies risk factors. Incorporates comfort measures and behavior distraction techniques to assist patient to cope. Immediately summons for help if there is any concern about a patient's clinical or behavioral presentation.

Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine. Ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain hospital policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or hospital employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate
