Job Summary

Peer mentors will serve as an energetic and enthusiastic resource and advocate for SOAR scholars. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Communicate and meet weekly with mentees.
-Develop and maintain relationships with SOAR scholars.
-Assist staff with coordination and implementation of SOAR Scholars extracurricular activities as needed.
-Provide assistance and support for SOAR scholars and connect students with appropriate college resources.
-Attend mandatory trainings and meetings.
-Abide by all laws, i.e., FERPA, HIPAA, etc., regarding the privacy of students in the SOAR program.

Pay Rate

$15.00/hour


Required Qualifications

To qualify as a SOAR Peer Mentor, applicants must:
- Be a current SOAR Scholar
- Be in good academic standing
- Have a minimum of at least one year remaining at Illinois State
- Have a genuine desire to help their peers succeed
- Be willing to learn and share information about the Illinois State community, student life, and campus resources
- Demonstrate an understanding and passion regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion


Work Hours

Anticipated work hours are Monday - Friday, 6-8 hours per week.

Must be able to complete the following with or with reasonable accommodations:
1. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Important Information for Applicants

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable, an employment history review, based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.

International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work more when the university is not in session. International students should contact the Office of International Studies and Programs for guidance if they have questions concerning employment restrictions.
