Summer 2025 - Genentech Community College Internship Program - Public Affairs & Access

Department Summary

We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2025 Genentech Community College Internship Program. This post is for roles within the Public Affairs & Access department. Public Affairs & Access is a multi-disciplinary organization that includes Channel & Contract Management; Corporate Communications; External Affairs; Policy, Evidence, & Access Strategy; and Strategic Business Operations. Our mission is to drive positive change in the healthcare system so that every patient can access our science. We lead the development of meaningful partnerships, forward-looking pricing, contracting and distribution strategies, and proactive policy solutions that advance a more equitable and hopeful future for all of those who need our therapies.

There are separate posts for other roles. Our program is designed to foster diversity in our talent pipeline and to expose students from underrepresented groups to STEM career paths. The goal of the program is to train entry-level candidates with skills that will enable them pursue a career in the biopharma industry.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

As an intern, you will perform various tasks under the guidance and mentorship of your manager. You will be expected to attend meetings, read independently on relevant topics, follow a training schedule set by your manager, and perform tasks independently as appropriate. You will also be expected to summarize the purpose of your work and any findings, and you will present future recommendations in the form of an oral and poster presentation.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2025

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of impactful business-critical projects (Topics may include but are not limited to: project management, communications support, streamlining standard operating procedures, and stakeholder engagement)

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries at the global scale

  • Final presentations of project work to senior leaders

  • Professional & personal development curriculum throughout the program, such as networking opportunities, workshops, tours, and panel discussions

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

  • Education Level: Community college affiliate (currently enrolled at a community college OR terminal A.S./A.A. degree holder within 1.5 years post-graduation at the time of application)

  • Applicants must be age 18 or older for this opportunity

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED at the time of application

Preferred Majors: Business Administration, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Health, Philanthropic Studies, Media Studies, Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Pre-Law

Required skills:

  • Excellent communication skills-ability to convey information clearly, tailor messaging to different audiences, listen effectively, and ask appropriate questions

  • Outstanding collaboration, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Interest/background in government affairs, health economics, contracts, digital/social channels, health equity, and/or corporate communications

  • Strong time management skills- aptitude for organizing to-do lists, setting priorities, and following through to meet goals and deadlines

  • Proficient in Google Applications (gCal, gDocs, gSlides, etc.)

  • Adaptive learner who can adjust to change easily

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Please note: The goal of the internship will be to train you. The following skills will give you an idea of different opportunities. You do NOT need to have all of these skills in order to apply. Not all internships will use all these skills.

  • Familiarity with spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel with a basic understanding of how to organize data and use them to do calculations

  • Ability to analyze data and report insights to inform decision making

  • Interest in cutting edge technology (AI/ML, Cloud, etc) that exists today and applicable business applications

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $23.00-$33.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
