Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking Postdoctoral Associate for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine ( CABM) located on the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Campus in Piscataway, New Jersey.

The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Associate is to conduct research on the influence of the maternal gut microbiota on infant gut microbiota and immunity. Potential projects involve investigating whether antiviral agents during pregnancy and nursing impact the gut microbiota and immunity in offspring. Others include investigating how birth gut microbiota in human infants' impact immunity to enteric pathogens. Skills and experience analyzing microbiome data and conducting immunological assays using various techniques are desirable. Molecular biology skills and/or experience working with mouse models would be advantageous. The Post-doctoral Associate will be expected to develop manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals, apply for fellowships, and contribute to the preparation of grant applications. The Postdoctoral Associate will also be expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate researchers and participate in collaborative work with other laboratories. The Postdoctoral Associate will be expected to maintain effective communication and active discussion related to the involved research with the Principal Investigator and laboratory members.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Perform scientific research using mouse models to investigate the effect of maternal antiviral agents during pregnancy and nursing on maternal and offspring gut bacteriome and virome. This includes preparing DNA libraries for sequencing to assess the bacteriome and virome and analyses of microbiota data using various computational tools.
  • Performing immunological analyses in mice by multicolor flow cytometry, ELISAs, Luminex among other immunological assays.
  • Preparing RNA-sequencing libraries (bulk and single-cell) for analysis of the transcriptome.
  • Contribute to the intellectual development of projects.
  • Maintain detailed and organized records of research activities.
  • Submit proposals for fellowship funding, with the guidance of the PI.
  • Write manuscripts and present findings in lab meetings, departmental meetings, and national and international conferences.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the research group.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in biomedical science, immunology, microbiology or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent theoretical and technical training in molecular biology and computational biology is desirable.
  • Experience working with animal models of gut microbiota is highly desired.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typical demands required for laboratory work, including: moving around a laboratory area, manual handling of small equipment such as pipettes, communicating with colleagues. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations including pipetting and use of microscopes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT;
Laboratory environment. Low to moderate noise. Universal safety precautions are mandatory.
