Why Campbell's...

This position is responsible for developing thermal processes for new products and product improvements, rendering them safe for human consumption while also ensuring they are scalable to plant production and optimized for quality. It is a highly technical and specialized position requiring a combination of a solid technical education and specific relevant experience. The incumbent interacts with individuals both external partners and internal, from product development, quality, engineering, packaging, marketing and manufacturing, working as a team to successfully launch new products and complete strategic projects. The position may involve supervising others who help in executing tests and collecting and analyzing data for thermal process calculations.

What you will do...

  • 10% - Assists in testing, developing and implementing new technologies in the area of thermal processing that have the opportunity to provide quality improvements, cost savings and productivity improvements to Campbell's manufacturing.
  • 40% - Develops thermal processes for products within a business, brand or project to ensure safety and optimal quality under plant processing conditions. This is done through evaluation of product formulas and procedures, design of a test protocol taking into account any variability in the ingredients, processes, filling equipment and other process-related equipment, collection of data from these tests, and conducting complex calculations to recommend appropriate lethality values. The position requires running Heat Penetration tests, as well as inoculation packs, and other validations as needed.
  • 25% - Provides input to processes used for assembling and filling the products as well as thermal process equipment (cookers). Carries out qualification of the cookers and other thermal process related equipment in the manufacturing plants, and pilot plants.
  • 5% - Performs appropriate testing to help resolve process deviations at the manufacturing level, including making recommendations on product disposition.
  • 10% - Work as a team member in carrying out projects and major initiatives of the assigned businesses
  • 10% - Supervises Research Assistants and Technicians in conducting heat penetration tests and product analysis and provides mentorship.

Who you will work with...

With guidance from Process Authority and/or supervising manager, analyzes products, formulas, processes and equipment to design test plans and carry them out to develop safe robust and workable thermal processes for new or improved products. This requires some statistical knowledge to determine significance of data generated. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of thermal processes and thermal process equipment. The incumbent must work with product developers and multiple development groups in the area of product design to ensure that products and processes are workable. When process deviations occur in the plants, the incumbent works with the Process Authority to simulate the situation, and help to determine the safety of the affected product. The incumbent must ensure that tests are conducted and data collected accurately and documented completely.

What sets your team apart?

This position requires good fundamental knowledge of thermal processing and related equipment. It requires experience with and understanding of how certain ingredients generally affect product heating characteristics. The incumbent should have a basic understanding of microbiology and food science, should understand engineering principles and be able to work with computer programs to calculate process lethality. The individual must be detail oriented, and have good mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills. They must also have good judgment, interpersonal skills and communication skills. The individual works with complex machines, data collection equipment and laboratory instruments. Must be willing to do hands on work developing knowledge of products and processes through these experiences. Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in auditing and training a diverse work group.

What you bring to the table...

  • Bachelors of Science degree
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in Thermal Processing, or a combination of Thermal Processing, Food Engineering, Food R&D / QA.
  • Certifications - Better Process Control School

It would be great to have...

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Engineering or related field.

Candidate must have the ability to travel 25-50% of the time to support ongoing projects and responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between

$68,600-$98,600

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
