How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

Provides supervision to the Respiratory Care staff to assure the delivery of quality patient care. Performs the duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, while assisting in overseeing daily operation of the departments.

  • Performs the duties of a registered Respiratory Therapist and applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Performs various therapeutic, life support and diagnostic procedures and patient/family education. Evaluates patients for the appropriateness and effectiveness of ordered therapy and communicates suggested alternatives to physician. Performs facility specific support functions and maintains professional and clinical competencies. Functions as a clinical resource and role model for clinical practice to co-worker, student and physicians.
  • Monitors performance improvement activities and analyzes PI Data as directed by management. Participates in development of action plans to meet /exceed targets.
  • Assumes accountability and overseas the development of the staff work schedule and make appropriate resource allocation decisions.
  • Responsible for assisting with interviews and hiring of employee candidates, performance evaluation, corrective action, problem solving.
  • Develops, reviews and revises respiratory services policies and procedures and presents educational training on all policies and procedures effecting Respiratory Care.
  • Participates on system/facility committees as a Respiratory Care representative and presents pertinent information to the department.
  • Develops and conducts staff competency validations.
  • Develops and implements orientation plans for new employees.
What We Require:

Education: Graduate of a COARC approved advanced practitioner Respiratory Care Program and Bachelor Degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 5 years post graduate clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Va. State Board of Medicine. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal communication (written and verbal), organizational and teamwork skills required. Ability to function independently and utilize various computer programs (Excel, word, Power Point). Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation yearly for position. Be able to acquire BLS within 3 months of employment in this position or as determined by department. Will require ACLS, NRP and PALS certification within one year of employment. Active membership in professional organization (AARC) preferred.
